Water Pipeline | PHED

Rajasthan Govt. | 0.7m x 60kms | 2018

In 2018, the Government of Rajasthan, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) tendered for construction of an Intake, Water Treatment Plant and Cluster Distribution System for more than 400 villages in Rajasthan. As part of this project, an estimated 60 kms of buried, cross country water pipeline was to be installed. The approved external coatings included 3 Layer Polyethylene, Dual Fusion Bond Epoxy and 100% Solids, Rigid, Direct to Metal Polyurethane as per AWWA C 222. However, for internal lining 100% Solids Polyurethane and Solvent Free Liquid Epoxy was approved.

The EPC contractor and the pipe mill selected 100% Solids Polyurethane Coatings for external coating of the pipe based on superior technical parameters and a lower cost. The contract to supply Polyurethane coating was awarded to Amchem and we supplied our Purethane NXT, snap set grade. The mill decided to award the contract for coating application as well to Amchem since they did not have any prior experience of spraying Polyurethane. Amchem deployed its customized plural component airless spray equipment and automatic guns as well as highly experienced crew for the project. We installed a spray booth on the skew conveyor line carrying the blast cleaned pipes. Snap set systems allows the material to be tack free in under 60 seconds i.e. before the first support roller about 2.5 meters away. This enables very high output production and allowed us to spray more than 100 pipes per day to quickly finish the project. Special field joint kits were supplied to the EPC contractor by Amchem for coating the cutback areas using rollers.

As of July 2020, several new pipeline projects are underway – 1.30m x 100 kms, 0.70-2.60 x 40 kms, and many more. Purethane is continuing to revolutionize the water pipeline industry!
