Water Pipeline | KC Valley

Karnataka Govt. | 3 STPs x 440 MLC | 2018

The Koramangala and Challaghatta (KC) Valley project is first of its kind considering its nature and scale. Three STPs of 440 MLC capacity filter the sewage (secondary treatment) from Bengaluru. The treated water is pumped to Lakshmisagar Lake in Naraspura, situated 45 Kms away. The water then flows into a drain network that connects 134 lakes in Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts, recharging the groundwater aquifers.

The treated water is transported through a 124 km network of pipeline upto 2.4 m in Diameter. The pipes have been lined with 625 microns of Purethane, 100% Solids, Direct to metal Polyurethane Coating. The customer, the Minor Irrigation Department of Karnataka evaluated several candidate coatings including Polyurethane and Solvent free Epoxy and finally selected 100% Solids Polyurethane Coating as per AWWA C222 on basis of superior technical properties. Pipes were lined at Megha Engineers (MEIL) plant on the outskirts of Hyderabad and at Jindal SAW Ltd facility at Bellary, Karnataka in 2018. Amchem supplied more than 360,000 Litres of Purethane coatings for the project and assisted both crews in application. Applied coating was tested as per AWWA C222 and met all the parameters.
